Obituary

Arthur Richard Rumsey, age 90, of Aurora, Missouri, passed away at 1:08 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2017, at the Mercy Hospital in Aurora.  He was born January 29, 1927, west of Springfield, Missouri, the son of the late Ted and Clara (Green) Rumsey.

He attended Willard and Springfield schools and served in the United States Navy in both WWII and the Korean Conflict.

On July 5, 1947, he married Betty Zoe Bresee and they had a daughter, Teresa “Terry” and a son, Arthur Richard II “Rick”.

He was employed by Buick Motors for 46 years in Springfield, Missouri, Tulsa, Oklahoma and Downey, California.  He trained at the Buick Training Schools in Flint, Michigan, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Burbank, California and served on the Buick Advisory Board in Flint, Michigan and retired in 1989.

He belonged to Abou Ben Adhem Shrine, Masons, Lions Club and was a master gardener.  He attended Elm Branch Christian Church.

He enjoyed collecting, cutting and polishing gem stones and making fine jewelry as gifts for family and friends.  He loved gardening and grew beautiful roses and lawns.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty; daughter, Terry Fuller and her husband, Richard; daughter-in-law, Linda Rumsey; granddaughter, Kristy Laurie and her husband, Kelly; two grandsons, Ryan Rumsey and his wife, Rachel and Michael Rumsey and his wife, Lori; six great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Aaron Rumsey, Klaire and Khloe Laurie, and Kaley and Karyssa Rumsey; two sisters, Betty East and Beverly Riordan and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Clara; son, Rick; granddaughter, Connie Fuller; and sister, Theda Mae Young.

A funeral service, under the direction of the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home in Aurora, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at the Elm Branch Christian Church.  Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Clear Creek Cemetery in Springfield.  Visitation will be held from 6:00–7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 20, 2017, in the funeral home chapel.
