Iva Jean Miller

Obituary

Iva Jean (Helm) Miller passed peacefully on April 9, 2017, at the age of 90.

Jean was born January 3, 1927, in Pacific, Missouri to Arthur W. and Gertrude L. (Zumwalt) Helm.

On May 28, 1944, she married James L. Miller in Robertsville, Missouri.  They lived for many years in Aurora, Missouri, in a house that they labored together to build themselves.  They later moved to Chesapeake, Missouri to be near their daughter.   Jim preceded her in death on March 9, 1983.

Jean retired in 1987 as Director of Accounting and Data Processing at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.  She enjoyed her work, and was quite proud of her accomplished career.  Through it, she made many great friends and fond memories.

Jean was a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years.  She was of the Baptist Faith.  Jean was strong, detailed, and tenacious.  She worked hard every single day of her life, and was never one to be idle.  In retirement, she took great pride in maintaining her home and yard, added special finds to her rock garden, grew strawberries and worked in her vegetable garden, and tended to scores of beautiful flowers that brought her great joy.  She was a born care-giver, and spent much of her life caring for many family members and friends in their old age.  She was always at the ready to give help whenever needed.  She loved collecting coins, and completed extensive amounts of genealogical work.  She spent countless hours with her granddaughter - having sleep-overs, reading Heidi, listening to big band music, and watching Dallas.  Most of all, she treasured being MeMaw to her great-grandsons, whom she simply adored.

Jean is survived by her only daughter, Jeanie (Ival) Golding, of Chesapeake, Missouri; her only granddaughter, Joy (Scott) Miller, of Nixa, Missouri; the lights of her life her two great-grandsons, Holton and Greydon Miller; three sisters, Georgia Craig, Alice Stewart, and Eula Laster and dear friend, Mary Cockell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her parents; two sisters, Norma Geirer and Mildred Nunn; two brothers, Grover Helm and Arthur Helm and special friend, Dwight Mooneyham.

A graveside service under the direction of the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home in Aurora, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, 2017, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Republic, Missouri.  Visitation will be held from 6:00-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, in the funeral home chapel.

Jeanie - I'm saddened to learn of your mother's passing. I'll always remember as a kind, compassionate person who loved her daughter greatly. Although we're never ready for them to depart you were lucky to have her company for such a long time. Thinking of you.
