Lois Frances Powers


Lois Frances Powers, age 86, of Aurora, Missouri, passed away at 7:20 a.m. on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at the Aurora Nursing Center.  She was born March 9, 1931, in Aurora, the daughter of the late Charles and Louise (Carl) Smith.

On March 26, 1948, she married Jack Powers, in Peoria, Illinois.  He preceded her in death on July 17, 1987.

Lois attended Aurora High School and worked for the Juvenile Shoe Factory in Aurora for over thirty-five years. She enjoyed bowling, fishing, Cardinal baseball, and family time.  She was a wonderful Wife, Mother, and Granny.  The family celebrates that Jack and Lois are eternally reunited after thirty years.

She is survived by her two sons Butch Powers of Aurora and John Powers and his wife, Ginny, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Shawn Griggs of Pittsburg, Kansas, Chad Estes of Aurora, and Ashley Wallace of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson and brother-in-law’s, Tommy Crowell of Aurora, Ted Powers of Shell Knob, sister-in-law’s, Laverne Powers of Aurora and Ann Gallagher of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and one aunt, Ramona Carl of Aurora.

Her parents, Charles and Louise; husband, Jack; two sisters, Gladys Crowell and Charlotte May Smith, preceded her in death.

A graveside service, under the direction of the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home in Aurora, will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2017, at the Maple Park Cemetery in Aurora.  Visitation will be held from 1:00–2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2017, in the funeral home chapel.

Memorial donations may be made to the Mercy Hospice or Relay for Life in care of the funeral home.

Back in the 1950s, I lived in Aurora and knew both Butch and John Powers, and sometimes played with them after school at Lowell Elementary. My condolences to Butch and John on the passing of their mother.
